A TREE
I see a tree and what do I see
I see me
The tree has become what we both stand for
We both stand for courage, strength and honesty
We both have snarls, wrinkles and bark that are weathering with time
We both have arms that sway in the winds of time
We both have roots that are firmly planted in what we have come to believe in
We both have leaves that bloom in the spring and are blown to distant shores in
the fall
We both have an inner spirit that continues to survive regardless of what
we are surrounded by
We both have lived through thick and thin ---fire and brim stone and are both
standing tall for whatever the future brings our way
We both have procreated so after our mutual demise there will be another
to take our place as nothing lasts forever
So just as the tree stands tall, bends with time and with the winds of change
I to have learned to bend and shift with those same winds of change
So as I enter your life, in these waning moments, perhaps we can both
bend with time and with the winds of change to make these moments
in our live meaningful, full of enough courage to express our love
to each other and not allow the past to hurt the future
as time is dear and so are you.
